Why this site exists
Most Canadians lose more than they realize on currency conversion. Banks and brokers quietly add 1.5% to 3% to the exchange rate, and on larger amounts that adds up to hundreds or thousands of dollars. Norbert's Gambit is a legal, well-established way to avoid most of that cost, but the existing explanations are scattered: one covers a single broker, another skips the tax side, a third is years out of date.
